Getting a glimpse of the highest volcano peak in Bali is an absolute must during your trip to Indonesia. Whether it be sunrise, sunset, or during a clear summer day, Mount Agung is mesmerizing and will leave you in awe. The best spot to capture this volcano beauty is at a still somewhat under-the-radar location known as Lahangan Sweet. For information and tips on how to get here, when to visit, and more, keep reading for everything you need to know to have the best visit possible.
Lahangan Sweet is a beautiful hill that offers breathtaking views. Here, visitors can simultaneously watch the panoramic sunrise and sunset. Not only that, you can also get views of Mount Agung, Mount Rinjani, and Amed Beach in the distance.
Since the road is quite steep and challenging, and we were running late for sunrise, we chose the jeep. We highly recommend this option, especially if you’re not confident on a scooter. It’s probably the most dangerous and bumpy road we’ve encountered on our world trip! The jeep ride costs an extra 50,000 IDR per person (less than € 3) for a return ticket, or 30,000 IDR one way. We think this is well worth it, even though we must admit it wasn’t the most comfortable ride.
Guided tours
Lahangan Sweet is still very hidden, but we do notice that more and more guided tours include a visit to this place. This is a great option if you don’t feel comfortable driving on the Balinese roads, or if you’re based a bit further away from Lahangan Sweet. The nice thing about guided tours is that you don’t have to worry about transportation, and you also don’t have to make your own itinerary. On top of all that, you help a local and get to learn something new about the places you visit! See availability for a guided tour of Lahangan Sweet.
Make a Trip Out of Lahangan Sweet.
Alone this is a big journey for a single spot but if you would like to visit there are plenty of other places and spots to add to your list to make the journey worthwhile.
Stay in Amed. This is the closest area to Lahangan Sweet which has good accommodation, great food and is a diver and snorkelling haven for all those in Bali.
Spending 2 or 3 nights in Amed is a great combination to relax and explore. Explore the mountains and above ground before diving into the clear waters full of tropical fish, turtles, dolphins and even a sunken Japanese shipwreck just offshore.
